            The West Virginia Health Professions Recruitment Program located within the Division of Rural Health and Recruitment (DRHR) can assist you with placement opportunities in our beautiful state.  Our program operates a statewide Clearinghouse that assists hospitals, private group practices, and primary care centers statewide with the recruitment and retention of primary care physicians, sub-specialists, dentist, and other health care professionals.

            If you are a Foreign Medical Graduate, West Virginia participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 Visa Waiver Program for sub-specialists and primary care providers, the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) J-1 Visa Waiver Program for primary care providers.

Key Points

West Virginia has in exess of 300 placement opportunites for health care providers. Our information is updated daily, with a special emphasis placed on our high need Health Professional Shortage Areas.

We utilize the State Loan Repayment Program; the Recruitment & Retention Community Project; J-1 Visa Waiver Programs; and the National Health Service Corps as placement enhancements.

Specialties Sought

We are currently recruiting for all health care providers. Loan repayment options are availabe for many of our health care facilites.

West Virginia coordinates and administers the waiver through the two following Federal programs: Appalachian Regional Commission J-1 Visa Waivers

The physician’s request must be sponsored by a state located within the Appalachian Region. The physician must agree to provide primary clinical care for 40 hours per week at a site located in a Health Professional Shortage Area. West Virginia’s J-1 Visa Waiver Program requires a three year service obligation

Department of State “Conrad 30” Program Physicians must agree to provide medical care for a minimum of 40 hours per week in either a Health Professional Shortage Area or a Medically Underserved Area. 

Sub-specialists and specialists are allowed to participate in this program, in addition to primary care providers. West Virginia J-1 Visa Waiver Program requires a 3 year service obligation.
