“South Carolina is a relatively small state so you can be close to everything you need and within close proximity to anything you want. You can enjoy mountains, the beach, and one of our beautiful lakes all in one weekend. The cost of living is very affordable and the weather is beautiful! South Carolinians are welcoming to all and the term Southern Hospitality is a way of life here.”

J-1 Visas in South Carolina

If you want to obtain a J-1 Waiver in South Carolina, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Start your job search about 18 months prior to when you want to start working.
  2. Find a job at an eligible J-1 site in our state. You can search for J-1 eligible jobs on 3RNET. Start your J-1 job search in South Carolina now.
  3. Connect with the J-1 contact to ask questions and learn about additional steps you may need to take.

We are currently reviewing applicants seeking J-1 Visa Waivers for all primary care (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Ob/GYN, and Pediatric) positions. We are posting a limited number of non-primary care positions, with waiver availability subject to community need and at discretion of our J-1 Visa Waiver liaison, Mark Jordan.

Typically we do not post for sub-specialties (i.e., neonatology, pediatric cardiology, etc). Please use your other resources for information about these non-rural jobs in South Carolina. If you locate an opportunity of interest, please contact Mark Jordan to inquire about waiver availability.

Physicians on J-1 Visas, please contact Mark Jordan to verify the availability of positions and assistance with waivers.

Important Note: South Carolina does not have a J-1 deadline for applications, though the sooner they may be in process, the better. Go to the South Carolina Office of Primary Care J-1 Page for more information.
