Three years ago, I pitched my ideas around behavioral health integration to Providence Community Health Center Inc.’s (PCHC) newly hired Medical Director, Dr. Andrew Saal. Given that PCHC’s patients are served in the largest urban, multi-site, multi-lingual health centers, there are many barriers to health and care that can impact behavioral health.
Jai Medical Center uses programs like NHSC and the J1 Waiver program, along with posting their health care job opportunities on 3RNet, as ways to make their recruitment efforts more competitive on a national basis. Their hard work has been paying off! JMC has successfully recruited two pediatricians through 3RNet that will be joining their practice this summer.

Recently in conversations with member Community Health Centers across the state, there has been an interesting trend in former Mainers “coming home,” looking to come back to the state they grew up in to raise families, rediscover nature, or give back to the state that gave them so much.
We continue to promote job openings across the state for several aspects of the medical field. A simple search of Maine’s current openings reveal openings ranging from CEO of Sacopee Valley Health Center, an hour outside of Portland (recently voted one of America’s coziest cities) to a physician of family medicine in Harrington, one of the many “Downeast” towns that allow access to Maine’s scenic coast.
Since 2012, when the Indian Health Service (IHS) became an organizational partner, we have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship with 3RNet National Rural Recruitment and Retention Network.
IHS and 3RNet share the common mission of engaging primary health care professionals and helping them to find jobs in rural and underserved areas throughout the country. Our national identity and marketing brand blends seamlessly with the mission and vision of 3RNet.

Attention facilities! Do you promote these strengths when talking with candidates? Use these tips from our Pennsylvania member, Judd Mellinger-Blouch, to make the most of how you advertise your jobs and facility!
The competition to recruit physicians and other providers is fierce and getting fiercer. Large health systems have an advantage because they offer bigger salaries and more resources. But 3RNet members and their affiliated health facilities have advantages.
Besides being husband and wife, Annika and Geoff Maly are family medicine residents set to Work, Play and Live in Oregon beginning September 2016. Here are the experiences and insights they’ve shared on what led them here.

2015 was another busy year for 3RNet! Here’s a recap of some big accomplishments we saw over the past year.
It's always great to hear when our members work closely with other organizations in their states who share our mission. One example of an outstanding partnership comes from our member in Arizona. We spent some time with the three entities that work together in the Grand Canyon state to find out more about the importance of partnering.
We're heading to Portland, OR next week (August 31 - September 3) for the 2015 Rural Health Summit, 3RNet's 2015 Annual Conference.
Congratulations! You’ve finished medical school and are on to your next step toward becoming a practicing physician.
You’re probably excited; there is a lot of ‘new’ in your life right now: New adventure, maybe a new city, and of course lots of new things to learn. Don’t fret – we are here to help!
Members are the heart of 3RNet's national network. This highlight of our associate member in Texas, Texas Association of Community Health Centers, comes to us from TACHC's employee and dedicated 3RNet member Anita Mitchell.
The candidate pool of new primary care physicians seeking rural practice opportunities is small. Honing in on the attributes most likely to predict a candidate’s affinity for rural practice is critical to recruiting the right person for a long career in your community.
Like many of our members, our Nebraska member Tom Rauner (in addition to his role as a 3RNet member) wears many ‘hats’ in his day-to-day professional life. Tom shared with us a unique example of several responsibilities coming together to improve health care in Nebraska through his work with a longtime partner, Rebecca Rayman.
We had the pleasure of engaging in a "Q & A" with Ann Cranford, Our Tennessee member and a 3RNet board member. Ann shared so much with us - from what's new in Tennessee to what's to be part of 3RNet and serve on our board.
A place of humble farmers and tight-knit families, rural Kansas normally receives little attention. But a hard-working doctor may be bucking the trend. Jennifer Brull, M.D., has practiced in Plainville, population 2,000, for 11 years, and in that time, has garnered numerous national honors.
We can hardly believe it - we've been blogging for a whole year! We're looking back on a great year of telling our story and looking forward to many more blog posts!
From our organizational member, Indian Health Service, read more about IHS' relationship with 3RNet and how they benefit from belonging to our national network.
This blog post comes to us from our Pennsylvania member, Judd Mellinger-Blouch. Judd discusses his work in partnering with a key organization in his state, the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP).
We thought, what better way to kick off 20 years of 3RNet than by sharing some insights from our Executive Director, Mike Shimmens! Mike started with 3RNet as a member himself, and grew with the organization through the years until in 2012 he was hired to replace Tim Skinner.
This type of innovation has been at the forefront of two recent projects in Florida and South Dakota. Our member in these two states saw an opportunity to provide better service, but instead of trying to create a project completely from scratch, they leaned on 3RNet to help create efficiencies and ultimately get the projects done
Morehouse Community Medical Centers, Inc., is looking for a dentist to start a brand new practice that would serve their three regular clinic sites, two school-based sites, and a mobile dental site that cover two rural areas in north-central Louisiana.
2014 was quite the transitional year for 3RNet! We thought the best way to summarize all the changes our organization has seen was to compile this “top 10” list. So, here it is…the top 10 things 3RNet accomplished in 2014:
Oklahoma…where the wind blows? We’d rather think of Oklahoma how our OK member, Alison Williams, does: the best of both worlds.
3RNet welcomes three new directors to its nine-member board. Sticking with tradition, the board transitioned both outgoing and incoming members at 3RNet’s Annual Conference in September. At a recent meeting the board named officers, including Tom Rauner from Nebraska being selected as the president-elect.
Scott Rollett works for a Federally Qualified Health Center with five locations in south central Indiana. He spent a few minutes telling us how he works with Indiana’s 3RNet member, the Indiana Primary Health Care Association, and why that relationship is so important for the facilities he helps staff.
Our Hawaii member, Scott Daniels, let us pick his brain about rural health, his leadership roles, and of course we had to ask a question or two about the great state of Hawaii. Learn more about Scott and how he works to improve rural health in a very unique state!
One of our favorite is getting to meet health professionals in all stages of training and practice who know (or are learning) about who 3RNet is and what we do. We had the chance to reconnect with one such professional, Ifedolapo Sulyman Olanrewaju. Ifedolapo, or “Dolapo” had already heard of 3RNet, but stopped by our booth anyway. Not only did he get some more great information that will help him as he searches for a job, he is the lucky recipient of the $250 gift card we gave away for this event!

We exhibited at the AAFP Scientific Assembly last week in Washington, D.C. We had such a great time we had to put together a list of some highlights!

National Health Service Corps is celebrating Corps Community Day on October 9, and we are excited to help them promote this event. Corps Community Day is a day to celebrate the impact of the NHSC on improving access to health care and highlighting the importance of the primary care workforce as a whole.
The 2014 recipient of the Fred Moskol award is Mary Amundson, who works for the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of North Dakota.
Mary has made dozens of contributions to rural health, specifically recruitment and retention efforts. Her achievements go far beyond her home state of North Dakota. Mary has had a nationwide impact with her work. She has been the Primary Care Office Director for North Dakota since 1989 and was a member of 3RNet at its inception in 1995.
We spent last week in Denver, Colorado for our 19th annual conference with many 3RNet members, partners, sponsors, and others interested in recruitment and retention efforts for rural and underserved areas across the country.
To recap this wonderful event, we’ve put together a list of “Six of our Favorite Things from our 2014 Annual Conference”
