Community Information:

This small town is located on Prairie Dog Creek in northwestern Kansas. It is an attractive city with a beautiful hillside park on the south side of town and a bustling shopping district downtown. There are several attractions to see in the area including both man-made sights and breathtaking scenery. The local reservoir was designed to cover about 2,200 acres and many species of fish thrive here including wiper, saugeye, and bass. The Wildlife Area covers 6,500 acres and offers a variety of outdoor recreation around the lake including swimming, boating, fishing, camping, hunting, hiking, and wildlife or bird watching.
Three different manufacturing businesses, two state district offices, a utility company corporate office, a drug and alcohol treatment facility including their corporate office along with numerous other smaller businesses make up the majority of the economic base, along with a strong agricultural industry. This diversity has played a key role in the success of keeping our population when many other surrounding areas continue to depopulate. Professionals in a wide array of educational backgrounds can find employment here and take advantage of the modest cost of living and hometown security found in Midwest rural towns. Two school districts remain in the county and play a large part in drawing younger families to the area as well as providing employment for many residents as well.  A strong sense of community is noticeable in all towns within the county. Many active civic groups keep the communities beautified and others are working to improve environmental health by creating more trails and intentional connections of sidewalks within the towns.
