Founded in 1896, only 30 years after the Civil War by Yankees, deep in the piney woods of former enemy territory, Fitzgerald is indeed a unique city. The city streets are named for northern generals on the east side and southern generals on the west side, and named for southern rivers on the north side and southern trees on the south side. Fitzgerald’s founders had quite a sense of humor, placing the original fire department on Sherman Street. Fitzgerald, Georgia has quite a history and we would love to share it with you.
