First, Next, Forever. Bellefontaine, Ohio
Helping mission-minded health professionals find their career opportunities.
Behind every successful 3RNET placement, there are dedicated people hard at work helping job seekers find their first, next or forever opportunity.
Meet Marie, the 3RNET Network Coordinator who reconnected Tara, the President/CEO in Bellefontaine, Ohio with Dr. Jasmin Usher-Ledet, a family physician who completed her residency in Bellefontaine and was looking for just the opportunity to return to a community she loves.
This is Dr. Jasmine Usher-Ledet’s Story
Dr. Jasmine Usher-Ledet’s rural upbringing cultivated an admiration of the relationship family medicine doctors create with their patients. Growing up, her medical experiences were with rural doctors who knew her entire family and provided holistic care. As she trained to become a family medicine physician herself, she knew that she too wanted to provide this type of care and build relationships like the ones she had experienced as a child in Ontario, Canada.
When Jasmine applied for residency programs, she knew something small would put her on the professional path she sought. Rural programs were exactly what she was looking for. When she matched with the rural residency at Ohio State University – she was elated! After a fantastic experience growing into the rural doc she was working to become, she moved to practicing rural medicine in Ohio.
Several years later, Dr. Usher-Ledet was ready for a new adventure. One where she could continue practicing in a rural community with an organization that understood her need for full-spectrum family care—the type of care she admired growing up and where she felt she could do the greatest good. So, she headed to 3RNET. She knew 3RNET was her best bet to find her dream job—and boy, did she find her dream job!
Marie Grady, Workforce Development Program Manager
Marie Grady is the Workforce Development Program Manager for the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers (OACHC). She is dedicated to supporting the health professionals who are ensuring access to health care at community health centers (CHCs) across Ohio. Marie is a recruitment and retention lifeline for these health centers that create a safety net for primary, dental, and mental health access.
As the Ohio 3RNET Network Coordinator, Marie connects health professional job seekers (like Dr. Usher-Ledet) with vibrant opportunities at Ohio’s 57 community health centers. In many areas of Ohio, these CHCs are the only source of health care for Medicaid patients and the underinsured. Like the health professionals who are providing much needed access to quality health care, Marie is mission-minded and works hard to leverage her talent and resources to better serve her fellow Ohioans. Thanks to her, facilities in Ohio are connected to mission-minded health professionals interested in living and working in her home state.
Tara Bair, President/CEO of Community Health & Wellness Partners
Community Health & Wellness Partners (CHWP) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving citizens in rural Champaign and Logan County, Ohio. With locations in Bellefontaine, Russells Point, Urbana, and West Liberty, CHWP continues the same mission to provide health care to those in need which a group of Mennonite doctors established over 50 years ago. CHWP is the product of Tara Bair’s dedication to service and the result of her preparedness meeting opportunity at the right time.
Tara served as the program coordinator for Ohio State University’s rural residency program during the time Dr. Usher-Ledet completed her residency there. When the residency program unfortunately lost funding in 2011, Tara knew she had to act, or thousands of Central-Ohio residents would be losing their access to health care—facing financial and other barriers. Amid this professional dilemma, Tara was experiencing a difficult time in her personal life as her husband battled cancer. They spent his last vacation adventuring with the two remaining residents, faculty and their families -- while Tara channeled her inner rural-community grit and put her energy into applying for a federal grant to open an FQHC, which would eliminate the lack of care the residency closure had created. A role model in perseverance, Tara applied for a federal grant and was successful in receiving the award which would establish Community Health & Wellness Partners in 2012, as a non-profit 501(c)3.
Upon receiving another federal grant award to be utilized for new access points, CHWP opened its doors on March 1, 2014. With a patient population to serve and a long-standing relationship with Dr. Randy Longenecker, founder of the Rural Training Track Collaborative which supports programs such as the rural residency for which Tara had been program coordinator, Tara knew she needed to hire staff! She turned to 3RNET in search of a physician to add to her team.
Finding Her Forever Opportunity
Dr. Usher-Ledet knew 3RNET was the place to look for the types of rural, all-in family doc positions she longed for.
When searching jobs on 3RNET, she happened to see the opportunity to work with Community Health and Wellness – the clinic which was established to provide care for the same patient population Jasmine had served during her residency! She was intrigued. Could she go back to where she had started her medical career, help the same community and treat the same people she had before? For her, this possibility felt like the opportunity to go home.
Fortunately, Tara Bair knew 3RNET was where she’d run into the mission-minded physicians she needed. Tara received Dr. Usher-Ledet’s information from 3RNET, thanks to 3RNET’s Ohio Network Coordinator, Marie. Tara was thrilled! She knew she had to reach out. The culture Tara had built at CHWP and the reflective style of practice was what she needed to add to her team. She knew Jasmine would understand the approach to patient-centered, whole-person, whole-community care and knew she believed in the delivery of integrated care.
Dr. Usher-Ledet believes, “Everyone should have a family doctor and if you don't have one that is close, people suffer. It's my job to prevent that.”
Thanks to the work of Tara and Marie, Jasmine is living her passion in the place that first felt like home. And, the people in Logan county, Ohio, are all the better for it. Today, Dr. Usher-Ledet and her fellow professionals serve over 17,000 patients.
