How long have you lived in Wisconsin? Why do you choose to live there?
60 years. It’s my home. I have traveled extensively but always called Wisconsin my home. It’s a beautiful state with four seasons, lots of recreation, good food and entertainment, and college and pro sports. And with several airports in the state and Chicago’s O’Hare not far away it’s easy to get anywhere!

What are the best cultural events that happen in Wisconsin?
With the exception of 2020 and Covid cancellations, there are many. Milwaukee’s lakefront hosts many ethnic celebrations and the annual music extravaganza Summerfest. Madison hosts Concerts on the Square six Wednesday evenings every summer, the Dane County Farmer’s Market Saturday mornings from April to November, and The Overture Center, site of traveling Broadway musicals and many other shows. La Crosse hosts Oktoberfest and there is a myriad of small-town festivals and gatherings every summer.
Why should a health professional choose Wisconsin over surrounding states?
Lifestyle. Like many states there are small community hospital systems or large integrated health systems to practice in. In Wisconsin you can easily be very urban or very rural, or somewhere in between. Hike, bike, golf, ski, hunt, fish, symphony, Broadway shows, four star restaurants, homey supper clubs, high level sports…there’s something for just about everyone here!

It’s a summer-time mecca for boaters, fisherman, campers, golfers, and water park enthusiasts. Wisconsin hosts a great State Parks network, the Ice Age Trail (hiking), and miles of bike trails from old converted railroad tracks. Snowmobiling, downhill and cross-country skiing are also very popular winter sports.

Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks, Wisconsin Badgers and Marquette Golden Eagles. Minor league baseball, soccer and hockey leagues also thrive.

What is the biggest misconception about Wisconsin?
That it only makes cheese and that’s it’s 20 degrees below zero from November to April.

Healthcare, biotech, motorcycles, (Harley Davidson), tourism, and yes, dairy!
How is the weather/climate in Wisconsin?
Four varied and beautiful seasons. Summers are lush and green with usual temps from high 60s to occasional 90s; fall is for hunting and football on crisp sunny days at Lambeau Field in Green Bay or Camp Randall in Madison; winters offer bright, glistening snow, and temps from the 20s and 30s down to the occasional cold snap of subzero temps; spring is rebirth as the snow melts and we get teased in March with the occasional 65 degree day, flowers bloom and lawns turn green again.
