How long have you lived in Ohio? Why do you choose to live there?

42 years, it’s a great place to raise a family! 

How is 3RNet impacting Ohio? Our Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and rural sites post jobs on 3RNet looking for qualified providers. Erie County Community Health Center has hired a Dentist from 3RNet. The candidate is Dr. Sherry Sharma is in the process of relocating Sandusky, Ohio. 

What are the best cultural events that happen in Ohio? Each city has many cultural events that celebrate all of the cultures and ethnicities throughout Ohio. 

Why should a health professional choose Ohio over surrounding states? Our state is one of the best state to raise a family. 

What loan repayment programs does Ohio have? Ohio has the Physician and Dental loan repayment program. The program offers loan repayment to primary care, mental health, and dental providers working in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) or state designated HPSA.

How is the J-1 Visa Waiver program utilized in Ohio? The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) participates in the State 30 Program to increase access to health care services for Ohio’s underserved populations. J-1 visa waivers allow foreign medical graduates to remain in the United States after completing residency/fellowship training in exchange for a three-year commitment to provide health care services in underserved areas. Primary care and mental health HPSAs, certain Medically Underserved Areas/Populations (MUA/Ps), and certain public and children’s hospitals located in MUAs are considered as underserved areas in the Ohio State 30 Program. Of the 30 slots available each year, up to 10 "flex" slots may be used for placements outside of underserved areas, if an adequate level of service to residents of these areas is documented. Qualified international graduates granted waivers must provide direct patient care for 40 hours per week and provide health care to all patients regardless of their ability to pay.

Are healthcare professionals valued in Ohio? Yes, they are especially in our FQHCs where we try to recruit and retain the best of the best. Currently one of our programs is to recruit new health professional graduates to primary care, mental health and dental in our FQHCs. Our technique is to teach them in the FQHCs and then hire them.

Why do people travel to Ohio? For family, sports, amusement parks, recreation parks, zoo, and art musuems.

What sports teams does Ohio have? In Ohio we have two major NFL teams, two major MLB teams, one NBA team, minor league team, two soccer teams, and a host of college that each city supports including the major school, “The Ohio State University.”

What is your favorite local food? Pizza from Donatos, salad from Northstar Café, and potatoes anywhere!

What is Ohio best known for? Sports

What is the biggest misconception about Ohio? That is Ohio is flat land! Ohio is very hilly!
