How long have you lived in Michigan? Why do you choose to live there?

I was born and raised in Michigan. I’ve stayed because of family, friends and I enjoy living in the Midwest. You can’t beat summers at the Great Lakes and the lower cost of living. 

How is 3RNet impacting Michigan?

Michigan is a proud 3RNet member. 3RNet impacts Michigan by giving rural employers a place to post their positions and candidates the opportunity to find jobs they may otherwise not have found elsewhere. 

Why should a health professional choose Michigan over surrounding states?

You can find a bit of everything in Michigan; vast rural areas with pristine coastline, water and relaxation and urban areas with sports, entertainment and non-stop activity.

What loan repayment programs does Michigan have? Anything that makes those programs unique?

Michigan has the Michigan State Loan Repayment Program (MSLRP) and a few new programs aimed at addressing workforce shortages in treating opioid use disorder. We also participate in the National Health Service Corps programs.

How is the J-1 Visa Waiver program utilized in Michigan?

Michigan is a J-1 friendly state. We always fill the 30 available waivers in the Conrad 30 program and also utilize the U.S. Exchange Visitor Visa Program for primary care physicians.

Why do people travel to Michigan?

People travel to Michigan for the abundance of year-round outdoor activities including skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, fishing, biking, and boating just to name a few.

What sports teams does Michigan have?

Detroit Tiger’s, Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Lions. Wonderful college football and basketball with Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. 

What is your favorite local food?

The Upper Peninsula is known for its Pasties – a meat hand pie that’s hearty and delicious. The Detroit area has some of the best Middle Eastern food anywhere. We also have a vibrant wine and craft beer scene throughout the state. 

What is Michigan best known for?

Being shaped like a mitten and surrounded by the Great Lakes! 

What are the biggest industries in Michigan?

Manufacturing and healthcare 

How is the weather/climate in Michigan?

The summers are hot, and the winters are cold with snow. Everyone in Michigan lives for the summer and spending it on the water at a lake! Michigan is a huge state; weather is influenced by the Great Lakes and can vary widely depending on location.
