How long have you lived in Louisiana? Why do you choose to live there? I have lived in Louisiana most of my life and can’t imagine anywhere else I’d rather be. This is a beautiful state with beautiful people.

How is 3RNet impacting Louisiana3RNet is providing our state with the access and communication tools to get full job detailed information, resources to find the right positions for individuals in all health care positions, and different state funded programs that allows professionals to do the best at their job while serving the community.

What are the best cultural events that happen in LouisianaThere’s no place like Louisiana. Our meals are never for one. Our music is legendary – and it’s always turned up! We’ve got something for every sportsman. Our heritage is rich. And, man do we know how to have a good time! Our state’s culture runs deep. We live boldly and we treasure our relationships with our family, friends, in coworkers. In Louisiana, we are known for Mardi Gras. This once a year event is like the Super Bowl, only bigger. It is recognized as one of the top events and festivals in the United States. Mardi Gras attracts hundreds of thousands of bead-draped visitors from all over world. Louisiana is also home to hundreds of festivals throughout the state. We’ve got a Strawberry Festival, a Peach Festival, a Frog Festival, an Alligator Festival, a Jazz and Heritage Festival, a Wooden Boat Festival and more! With festivals like these, there’s something for everyone in all parts of our state! 

Why should a health professional choose Louisiana over surrounding states? Louisiana has a passion for life. A paper recently released by the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research, indicates Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Shreveport and Houma landed on the list of top 10 U.S. metropolitan areas with the highest reported happiness. No other state claimed more than one spot. Having a career and family here our state is truly the perfect selection. Data also reveals that Louisiana’s cost of living index is just 93.8, compared to an average median index of 100, falling nearly seven percent lower than the national average. Everything from the groceries to the utilities are lower cost when compared to other states. The housing market is where you will save the most. The median home price in Louisiana is $155,000, whereas the median in the US is $302,000.

How is the J-1 Visa Waiver program utilized in Louisiana? The purpose of the Louisiana Conrad State 30 (J-1 Visa Waiver) Program is to recruit needed primary care and specialty physicians, both allopathic and osteopathic, into federally-designated health professional shortage areas (HPSAs). Physicians should contact our office for a predetermination of eligibility.

Are healthcare professionals valued in LouisianaOur healthcare professionals are valued by our state and the patients they serve. By our state being so family oriented and often the first point of contact for patients entering the medical system, developing a good working relationship with one can be very helpful to you, the patient. Louisiana is a Sportsman’s Paradise. You can hunt deer, hogs, turkeys, and more. There’s also world class fishing! Get active! Hike, bike, camp and fish in any of the 22 state parks. Listen to great music, enjoy delicious food, and learn about our deep roots at more than 400 festivals occurring throughout the state year-round. Take a ride on the Mississippi river in a paddlewheel boat or hop in an airboat for a guided swamp tour. Visit our attractions! You can visit the Aquarium of the Americas to see some amazing marine live. Hop on a streetcar to the Audubon Zoo. Take control in the International Space Station at the Sci-Port Discovery Center. Visit the Knock-Knock Children’s Museum for a fun afternoon of learning. Whether you are a Saint, Tiger, Jaguar or a Pelican, the tailgating is always amazing. 

What sports teams does your state have? Louisiana is passionate about sports of all types and at all ages! College teams in the state include: Grambling State University Tigers, Louisiana State University Tigers, Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs, McNeese State University Cowboys, Nicholls State University Colonels, Northwestern State University Demons, Southeastern Louisiana University Lions, Southern University Jaguars, University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns, University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks, University of New Orleans Privateers, Xavier University of New Orleans Gold Rush, Dillard University Bleu Devils, Tulane University Green Wave,Loyola University of New Orleans Wolf Pack. Louisiana also has a National Professional Football League team, the New Orleans Saints; a National Basketball Association team, the New Orleans Pelicans; and a Minor League Baseball team, the New Orleans Baby Cakes.

What is your favorite local food? Fried gulf shrimp! But! Louisiana is known for all culinary masterpieces: Boudin, beignets, king cakes, and most of all crawfish!

What is Louisiana best known for? Louisiana is known for its music! We are the birthplace of jazz, we also have swamp pop, Cajun, country, blues, and rap…there is something for everyone to enjoy. Mardi Gras, of course, the biggest festival we have and the most popular. Also: food, food, and more food!

What is the biggest misconception about LouisianaThere is NOT an alligator in everyone’s backyard and our state is not a giant swamp! New Orleans has a wonderful Louisiana culture and lots of attractions, but our state is full of communities with different aspects of Louisiana culture!   

What are the biggest industries in LouisianaThe largest concentration of crude oil refineries in the United States are located in Louisiana. Commercial fishing in Louisiana provides seafood for much of the U.S. Louisiana accounts for 25 percent of the seafood consumed in the U.S. The state also holds a record of 1.9 billion pounds taken in in one year, making it the greatest catch ever recorded. Agriculture plays a critical part in the financial makeup of Louisiana. The state is second in the nation for its production of sugarcane and sweet potatoes.

How is the weather/climate in Louisiana? There are distinct weather patterns in Louisiana. In south Louisiana, we have higher rainfall and humidity levels. In north Louisiana, a little less humid but still noticeably moist. The time of year when there is a STARK difference is winter. In north Louisiana, temperatures can drop to the 30s but in south Louisiana temperatures will only get down to the 40s with a rare few mornings in the 30s.
