Our members know their states! This week we hear from our Oklahoma member, Corie, about her great state:
Name: Corie Kaiser
City, State: Oklahoma City, OK
Organization: Oklahoma Office of Rural Health
How long have you lived in the state? Why do you choose to live there? My whole life (minus about 3 years), its home!
How is 3RNet impacting your state? Getting 3RNet traction in Oklahoma has been a slow process but we are working really hard to make it more known to our hospitals and clinics.
What are the best cultural events that happen in your state? I think one of the best events in the state is the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. The marathon is a Run to Remember those that were killed in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City on April 19,1995. Tens of thousands of people from all over the world participate in the run each year to remember and honor those who were killed and those who survived.
Why should a health professional choose your state over surrounding states? We need providers! For those who truly want to serve and make a difference; we can find a home for you.
What loan repayment programs does your state have? Anything that makes those programs unique? Our state participates in the National Health Service Corps loan repayment program and we also have a state program called the Physician Manpower Training Commission that assists physicians and nurses with residency, internship and scholarship programs for those interested in working in rural and underserved areas of Oklahoma.
Why do people travel to your state? A lot of people travel in for rodeo events such as the International Finals Rodeo and Professional Bull Riding events.
What sports teams does your state have? Football is huge in Oklahoma. You are either a Sooner or a Poke but we can all agree on being OKC Thunder fans!
What is your favorite local food? Indian tacos (fry bread topped with beans, ground beef, lettuce, cheese, jalapeños, etc., and of course hamburgers!
What is your state best known for? Tornados and our large Native American population
What is the biggest misconception about your state? That we still get around in a horse and buggy. There is a lot of culture to experience in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City and Tulsa are both very metropolitan cities!
What are the biggest industries in your state? Oil & gas production and agriculture
How is the weather/climate in your state? We have a good mix of all the seasons however we have been known to experience all four in a single day! Will Rogers (a famous Okie) once said, “If you don’t like the weather in Oklahoma, wait a minute and it’ll change.”
