One of the best things about our national network of 3RNet members: they live and work in their states! Our Texas member, Anita Mitchell, shared some insights about the state she knows and loves.

How long have you lived in the state? Why do you choose to live there?
I was born and raised in Texas. I have visited many states and have yet to find people with the Southern hospitality like Texas.
What are the best cultural events that happen in your state?
Texas is a diverse state featuring cultural events specific to each community.
Why should a health professional choose your state over surrounding states?
There is a place for everyone in Texas. You can live the metropolitan life, enjoy the serenity of the rolling hill country, hike, bike, water raft, state parks & wildlife refuge or sunny beaches.
What loan repayment programs does your state have? Anything that makes those programs unique?
We have the Physician Education Loan Repayment Program and the Dental Education Loan Repayment Program.
How is the J-1 Visa Waiver program utilized in your state?
We have select positions/opportunities that will support the J-1 Visa Waiver. Many applicants prefer to apply via the Texas Conrad 30 Program.
Are healthcare professionals valued in your state? Do you have any examples?
Yes. Retention is a priority and focus for your members. We work hard to recruit high caliber providers and we value not only healthcare professionals but all our team members.
Why do people travel to your state?
Music is big in Texas and one big annual event that brings a crowd is SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
What sports teams does your state have?
Dallas Cowboys, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Astros (World Series Champions 2017), Texas Rangers, Houston Texans, Dallas Mavericks, UT Longhorns

Texas is best known as the The Lone Star State. The Alamo is located in San Antonio, Texas and is considered the cradle of Texas liberty and the state's most popular historic site.
What are the biggest industries in your state?
Texas has a diverse economy: oil, gas, transportation, cattle, telecommunications, banking, plastics and chemical
How is the weather/climate in your state?
Hot one day, cold the next. Depending on where you go in Texas you can experience snow all winter or in other parts of the state barely a winter experience reaching freezing temperatures.
