In the southeastern part of the state, the largest city, Sioux Falls, is complemented by the surrounding communities that offer unique small-town experiences. The diversity of the area makes abundant educational opportunities possible, with two state universities, several private four-year institutions, and many two-year or vocational training centers located throughout the area.
Two main interstate highways (I-29 and I-90) make travel throughout the region easy and help this area of South Dakota prosper and grow. The region contains many recreational opportunities with more than 175 natural and man-made lakes, three major rivers, and various other attractions.
The southeast region is home to two large healthcare systems, Sanford and Avera, with networks of strategically placed satellite clinics. Opportunities to join groups of four to six physicians or practice in small one to two physician groups are available. Many of the opportunities are affiliated with the larger groups located in Sioux Falls, Brookings, Yankton, Aberdeen, and Mitchell.
