Southeastern New Mexico's terrain ranges from high rolling plains to the heavily forested Sacramento Mountains.

It is home to the White Sands National Monument, the world's largest naturally-ocurring gypsum deposit, and Carlsbad Caverns National Park, the most extensive and spectacular limestone caverns in existence.

Ski Apache is a ski resort in southern New Mexico, on the slopes of Sierra Blanca. It is owned and operated, since 1963, by the Mescalero Apache Tribe. Ski Apache is the only ski resort in New Mexico with its own gondola lift.  Sierra Blanca Peak, home to Ski Apache, rises more than 12,000 feet above sea level.

Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts is a 514-seat venue hosting top-tier performances from jazz musicians to international ballet dancers. The white, templelike building looms majestically amid mountain vistas just north of Ruidoso and is one of the state's cultural icons.
