The southeast region of Minnesota is affectionately known as Bluff Country. Here you can cruise along Minnesota State Highway 16, designated the Historic Bluff Country Scenic Byway, which takes you through Spring Valley, Preston, Lanesboro, Rushford, Houston,  and La Crescent on the shore of the Mississippi River. This corner of Minnesota offers intriguing history, splendid scenery and a variety of recreational opportunities. You'll also find Amish craftsmanship, riverboat cruises and the habitat for majestic bald eagles.

Rochester is the largest city in the region and is home of the internationally renowned Mayo Clinic. Southwest-Southcentral Minnesota consists of 12 counties and contains over 50 cities, with a regional population of approximately 530,000 people. This region of Minnesota is bordered by Wisconsin to the East and Iowa to the South.

Minnesota is committed to helping all Minnesotans obtain access to quality, affordable health care. Due to the difficulties some areas experience recruiting and retaining physicians, many communities turn to international medical graduates and J-1 Visa Waivers to fill their physician vacancies. The Minnesota Department of Health's Office of Rural Health and Primary Care developed this guide to the J-1Visa Waiver Review and Recommendation Process.
