Northern Illinois has much to offer anyone seeking beautiful landscapes and a unique combination of rural and urban lifestyles. With metropolitan Chicago in close proximity, the pastoral atmosphere of Northern Illinois provides both the idyllic small-town American setting and the opportunity for big city excitement. The agricultural economy of the area creates a patchwork of farmers markets, wineries, orchards, farmhouses, and fields which blankets this serene region. The corn-farming community of De Kalb is home to the Huskies of Northern Illinois University.
