Chicago is the third largest city in the nation and offers almost any type of art, entertainment, dining, or recreation one could imagine. World renowned for both its science and art museums, the city is the cultural center of the Midwestern United States. Chicago also boasts top quality athletics as the home of teams in all major sports leagues.

Chicago is home to many world renowned medical centers. Additionally, it boasts several medical schools as well as nursing and allied health professional programs at universities located throughout the city. Residency programs are available at a number of schools as are opportunities to work in a wide variety of practice settings.

The Chicagoland Area consists of several counties surrounding the city of Chicago. The medical facilities in this area are world class, however several health professional shortage areas and medically underserved populations exist in this region.

Other resources readily available for a health professional in this area are universities, medical schools, referral centers and residency programs. Local health departments are located in each of the counties making up the Chicagoland Area.

Assistance is available to prospective applicants for the Conrad 30 J-1 Visa Waiver program.  The Illinois Department of Public Health does not maintain a registry of available positions nor does it recruit providers for medical facilities.  Waiver applications are accepted from October 1st through October 31st of each year.  If waiver positions exist after the October 31st submission deadline, new applications are accepted from January 1st through January 31st.
