Northern California's beautiful landscape of trees, green landscape and crisp, clean air is all part of the wonderful atmosphere of northern California. It's very natural and almost untouched by much of society. This area offers skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, yet is only two hours or so from San Franciso or Lake Tahoe. This frontier portion of California is truly one of our special secrets.

Northern California has a great need for healthcare workers. There are many areas of northern California that are frontier and where healthcare facilities are very disperse. Most of these facilities are located in medically underserved shortage areas and there is a crucial need for healthcare workers to provide adequate healthcare for the rural comminities. Positions include, but not limited to: dentist, nurses, mid-levels, behavioral healthcare, and physicians.

California accepts 30 applications per year for the J-1 Visa (Conrad 30 Waiver) Program. Applications are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis beginning October 1 of each year. The California J-1 Visa Waiver Program does not provide direct recruitment services for J-1 candidates.

This program is open to board eligible or board certified primary care physicians (GPs and FPs), gynecologists, pediatricians, and psychiatrists. This program is not open to nurses or behavioral health specialists. To request a State of California Conrad 30 Waiver recommendation letter, candidates need to: 1) apply for a J-1 Visa Waiver through the United States Department of State; 2) obtain a waiver review case number from the United States Department of State; 3) secure an employment contract with a medical facility in a HPSA or MUA designated service area, signed by the candidate and the head of the facility, to provide patient care for a minimum of 40 hours per week for a 3-year term; 4) complete the application requirements found at the California J-1 Visa Waiver Program website located at: http://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/rural/Pages/J-1VisaWaiver.aspx.
