  • Home to Arkansas State University—Jonesboro, Arkansas.

  • Pine Bluff boasts the Art & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, with new exhibits and showcases rotating out in constant succession, so there's always something new to see.

  • The Delta Region boasts some of the most unique wildlife seen in Arkansas. Aviary and fish species abound. Deer hunting is very plentiful. Wildlife populations continue to bounce back and flourish thanks in part to the efforts of Wetlands Reserve Program Easements established by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Much of the Delta Region landscape is being returned to its original splendor as it would have appeared to Arkansas's first settlers.

  • Farming and gardening is certain to be successful in this region. The soil is dark and rich, as was noted by the original land surveyors.

  • Contestants come from around the globe for the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest held annually in Stuttgart, Arkansas.  Stuttgart is also home to the headquarters of Riceland Foods, the world's largest rice miller and marketer.

  • Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie is located in Stuttgart, Arkansas.

  • Every Delta Region county has festivals and fairs with down-home cooking and homemade country wares.

  • Visit the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum & Education Center in Piggott, Arkansas, where "Papa" Hemingway penned portions of "Farewell to Arms".

  • Great River Road, a national scenic byway, will lead you from North to South through this rich agricultural kingdom where cotton, rice, soybeans & wheat flourish.  Many plantation and antebellum houses can be seen along this byway.

  • Louisiana Purchase State Park is located along the Great River Road near Brinkley, Arkansas.  The National Historic Landmark at this park marks the initial point from which all surveys of the property acquired through the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 were started.

  • Southland Park Gaming & Racing--one of the largest dog tracks in the country—is located in West Memphis, Arkansas (just minutes over the Mississippi River from Memphis, TN).

  • King Biscuit Blues Festival is held annually in historic Helena, Arkansas.

Message to J-1 VISA Physicians: The best way to practice in AR as a J-1 VISA candidate is to directly contact the Arkansas hospitals or clinics of interest to you.  Discuss directly with them their employment opportunities.  If a hospital/clinic writes they are "not a J-1 Visa site", please respect their statement and do not call them.  They know if they meet the criteria requirements.  The best use of your time is to only contact those sites that are eligible.

Please do not contact the J-1 Primary Care Office yourself.  Waivers are not issued directly to practitioners.  When you receive a job offer, the hiring facility or your immigration attorney will contact the J-1 Office to obtain the waiver on your behalf.

Little Rock is the capital city of Arkansas.  In 2013, Kiplinger's named it the #1 best place to live in the U.S. for small to mid-sized cities in America, beating out cities like Burlington, VT and Santa Fe, NM.  Arkansas has a strong business sector that continues to grow, as well as access to excellent public education. The triumvirate of government, culture, and health care industries all converge in Little Rock, the state's most populous city.
