Central Alabama is home to Birmingham and Montgomery, the two largest cities in our great state. Montgomery, the state capital, is a historical metropolis with the Rosa Parks museum, the famed Martin Luther King Jr. Dexter Avenue Church, and the Hank Williams Museum. Cheer on the famous Montgomery Biscuits baseball team at the River Walk in downtown Montgomery, or venture to the Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park to see a play at the world-renowned Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
For a true culinary experience, Birmingham is the city of choice. The national award-winning restaurant industry in Birmingham is home to two James Beard Award Finalists, and two recipients of the “Best Chef in the South” award. For a special evening of fine dining, Birmingham offers a variety of culinary arts sure to please your palate.
Central Alabama is also home to DeSoto Caverns, located in Childersburg. Wander through actively growing rock formations producing some of the largest accumulations of stalagmites in the world.
Don’t forget about football! The biggest college football rivalry is housed in central Alabama. Visit Tuscaloosa or Auburn on a Saturday to see first-hand some of the most dedicated football fans in the country. However, Alabama’s universities are not just known for their success on the football field. The most recent ranking by U.S. News and World Report lists Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine as one of the top 20 veterinary schools in the nation. Birmingham is home for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, which is training the next generation of physicians to deliver innovative medical care to Alabama patients and beyond.
Visit rural West Alabama for some of the best hunting and fishing opportunities in the United States. Alabama has one of the longest deer seasons in the country, and the rural lands of West Alabama provide hunters with reserves featuring turkey, quail, wild boar, duck, and white-tailed deer. Alabama has seven counties with over 50,750 square miles of land that is certain to provide a great hunting experience.
