Community Information:
Unalaska is a breathtakingly beautiful and staggeringly remote town, located on the volcanic island of the same name. Midway out on the Aleutian Chain, which reaches from North America across the northern Pacific towards Asia, the community of Unalaska has been inhabited by the Unagan people for 10,000 years. Occupied by Russian fur traders in the 1700s and indelibly affected by World War II, it is currently home to the Port of Dutch Harbor, the #1 commercial fishing port in the U.S.
This vibrant community at the intersection of the Bering Sea and Pacific Ocean is home to hard-working people from all over the world. Unalaska has a year-round population of roughly 4,700 people, which doubles during the 8 month long fishing season with the influx of seasonal workers.
Outdoor activities include: hiking, birding, fishing, kayaking, surfing, and more! Visit the Museum of the Aleutians and numerous WWII sites.
