The school houses an indoor, Olympic-size swim pool open to the public to allow for water aerobics and swimming even during the winter months.
Amongst the several businesses, Elgin is home to a local coffee shop, a cafe with a bowling alley, a clothing boutique, artist shop, grocery store, two hair salons, a hardware store, an accountant, eye doctor, a convenience store, a farming implement, newspaper, library and a couple gas stations.
The Lions host "Hamburgers in the Park" every Friday evening, selling deliciously grilled hamburgers, cheeseburgers and hotdogs while different community groups join in and sell a wide variety of individual slices of pie.
