Elgin, nested in the rolling hills of southwestern North Dakota, offers a quiet lifestyle with a population of approximately 544 and there are several businesses as well as Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center. Being located 15 miles south of Lake Tschida and 4 miles north of Sheep Creek Dam, residents and visitors can enjoy outdoor sports of swimming, water skiing, fishing or hunting. The school houses an indoor, Olympic-size swim pool open to the public to allow for water aerobics and swimming even during the winter months.

Amongst the several businesses Elgin is home to a local coffee shop, a cafe with a bowling alley, a clothing boutique, artist shop, grocery store, two hair salons, a hardware store, an accountant, eye doctor, a convenience store, a farming implement, newspaper, library and a couple gas stations.

The Lions host "Hamburgers in the Park" every Friday evening, selling deliciously grilled "homemade-like" hamburgers, cheeseburgers and hotdogs while  different community groups join in and sell a wide variety of individual slices of pie.

While Elgin is a close-knit community, guests soon become like family!
