Here you'll find Savannah and its historic district, dotted with parks and lined with moss-covered trees, which have been seen on television and in movies for years. St. Simons Island, Sea Island, and Jekyll Island are home to world-class golf and resorts. Unlike most of the east coast, in Georgia you'll find miles upon miles of protected seashore and deserted barrier islands perfect for exploring.

Modern Georgia began in the Coast region with the founding of Savannah - considered the most beautiful city in the nation. After the Civil War, the region's coastal islands became home to many freed slaves, giving rise to unique communities that retained much of the culture, lore, and language of their Afican ancestors-much of which is still celebrated today.

History and nature, art and culture—the Georgia Cost abounds with opportunities. From unspoiled islands, to tree-shaded squares, to elegant beach retreats, to marshy wildernesses, the world is standing up and taking notice of Georgia's Coast as a vacationer's paradise.
